Re: new kit, carb, dies when given throttle
the carb is easily accessible so here are 2 tricks i use to get a feeling for jetting:
- if the choke is accessible pull it while your running at a safe speed, if response improves, upjet, otherwise downjet
- use a fairly small jet. while riding at safe speed (i.e., the bike not stopping), put your hand in front of the intake (without air filter on). you can sort of play with airflow by spreading your fingers a little or just covering part of the carb's intake. the more air you let through, the more you are simulating a lean jet, the more of the intake you cover with your hand, the more it is like a rich jetting.
(do all this at full throttle, that's where the main jet has 100% influence, at other throttle openings the needle, idle, air mixture and slide cut out come into play, depending on your brand of carb).
good luck!
