Both have merits, I'd prefer CDI because it is more reliable and it'd also be converting to a 12V system which makes swapping bulbs easier - you can run car accessories.
That said, It's not worth the money for me, points work well too. Dirty points or worn points can mess up timing and cost you some power, they're also prone to gap across the points sometimes, and that'll loose you a tiny fraction of power too, but nothing you'll notice.
either way you get a spark - doesnt affect how easy/hard it is to start it though.
