Reeds and general mods for a Honda NC50 Express
Hello all, complete newbie here. 3 weeks ago I didn't even know what a 2 stroke was. Now I'm the proud owner of a Honda NC50 Express.
Have been reading up over the past couple of weeks on how to get a bit more out of my new purchase. At the moment it tops out at around 25mph which I understand is the norm, just want to see if I can at least get it to 30mph. As I’ve said, this is all new to me but without sounding big headed I’m not that daft and have enjoyed reading up and trying to learn the basics about tuning and maintaining a 2 stroke scooter.
I want to keep most of it stock. I’m within the law over here in England if I keep it to 50cc, anymore and I could be in trouble so I don’t want to be putting any big bore kits in. I have bought a performance air filter and a pocket bike exhaust with expansion chamber which I will try and fit on it (again, all new to me but I’m now trying to borrow a MIG welder off somebody for the exhaust part of things). I don’t really want to start changing the carb because I reckon that would be completely out of my depth. I was thinking about changing the reeds to Boyesen Dual Stage Reeds #716, if I could find them that is. If I can, are these the right ones? Have read here some people have had trouble fitting them. I really don’t want to be changing things like the fuel intake manifold because, again, that scares me.
I’m just after a bit of advice. Does this all sound right or am I just wasting my time. I know an extra 5mph isn’t much but it would be nice to have.
And, as a side note, am I going to have to up the jet if I do all this? If I'm making sense.
Cheers
