1995 tomos CDI box anomaly - blasters please read
I have a CDI box from a 1995 tomos. original equipment.
I also have a cdi box from a 98 tomos and a 2001 tomos. all original equipment.
I've also tested my friends 1996 cdi and it doesn't change anything.
the 98 and 2001 cdi's both rev limit me around 49-50-52 mph. i can just feel the bike not revving out anymore, regardless of where i put the timing. whether it's detonating down low, or detonating up top, it doesnt matter.
I put the CDI from the 1995 tomos on, and make no other changes. 58MPH+++ PLUS gps'ed on the bike. i let off only because i'm terrified the thing is going to explode and blow apart on me. fastest bike i have. revs for centuries. seriously fast shit.
I went to my local tomos dealer and they don't even have a part number for this cdi.
All i know is that it hooks up exactly the way the normal tomos a35 cdi would. one male blade connector that the black wire on the stator wires to, a single redbrown lead with a ring connector that needs to be grounded, and a spark plug wire connection that you'd thread a spark plug wire into.
The early cdi came on a bike with a flywheel that looked like a points flywheel. three big holes. the other cdis all had bikes with different, smaller flywheels.
every cdi will interchange with every other cdi.
in fact, if you want to run a 31 tooth sprocket, you need to switch to the smaller solid style flywheel, because you'll hit with the big flywheel. chain vs flywheel vs no. even with cases ground it straight up hits the flywheel.
i know about the A55 rev limiter or whatever. this A35 one is new to me.
for people running gilas, remember the hpi ignition has given me a world of hurt. the winning combo might be the 1995 cdi box on a stock ignition. / stator / flywheel. the HPI simply lacks any mass and thus ability to absort angular momentum and shock from the shifting and what not.
Now the only question is, how do I find more of these boxes, so that when mine dies, i don't immediately lose 10mph on my bike.
