Re: Treats new Super Stuffy Crank
Dips in the piston, lookin like a golf ball surface kindof? on the top or on the skirts?
Larry widmeyer started the soft chamber technology 25 years ago that involved dips and texture changes inside the combustion chamber (on the cylinderhead or piston) wile running ultra high compression ratios. This allowed more compression ratio without detonation but it lost favor and never proved it's self out because the extra chamber surface area exposed more aluminum surface and so absorbed more heat and such this lowered the engines thermal efficiency.
I've discused this with larry on speed talk chats and it was my contention that the media reported gains and hype where actually a band aid for a problem in that he simply had an overheating chamber. This could have been remedied in many other more benifical ways then putting dips in the chamber. Yes he saw gains on the dyno after dipping his pistons but other fixes would have yeilded even better gains.
Incidently my ringland porting idea cools the piston and hence the chamber and such can tolerate higher compression ratios without sacrificing the thermal efficiency like his soft chamber technology does. Google: larry widmeyer soft head
