Yes ed that is another advantage, but also when the exhaust port opens crankcase pressure is then greater then cylinder pressure and so the ring then floats up thereby allowing case pressure to flow threw the ring pack. The ring acts like a check valve and allows case flow whenever cylinder pressure is not contributing to horsepower production. This flow timing will vary at any RPM, throttle position or load and so also helps widen the power band.
