Super sweet drag bike dude. I know you were just getting caught up in the mods and the 4bbl analagy was just used to describe the sudden pull.
Seriously though, a finely tuned variated trans is a juggling act. You're trying to get the variator to hold in long enough to take advantage of the lower gearing range (mid to lighter weight) which is fighting the large torque spring rate in the clutch, and having the clutch shoes hook up smoothly to keep it all within the maximum torque range of the motor in combination with the weight of your ass. This will be different for every combination of bike, motor size & powerband, rider weight and riding condition.
It takes a lot of playing around with the different parts and combos to find the optimum performance. But when it's done right, the motor jumps directly to the peak power band with what sounds like a constant slipping clutch until it finally hooks up smoothly at about 200' + out of the hole.
