Re: 6V to 12v Conversions REGULATOR

Reveeen (reveeen) — Jul 03, 2009 09:00AM

It is very likely the "moose" regulator in nothing but a zener in a fancy package!

So where does the Regulator go in the lighting circuit?

You are starting to get specific without being specific. Anywhere you can place it that:

The wire gauge is sufficient not to melt.
The unit is somewhat protected from the elements (splashing water, wheel spray, snow, mud, rocks, etc).
It will get hot (if it is working), so you don't wish to attach the heatsink to plastic.

What the regulator is doing is: bleeding excess voltage off converting it to heat energy (because it has to go somewhere).

You seem to have this "moose" thing on the brain. ANY small charging system regulator is going to do what you want (because they are all the SAME), be it from a Yamaha scooter to a China bike. Hooper imports will sell you a 6 or 12V regulator CHEAP. You use what you can lay your hands on, either easiest, or cheapest.
