i searched all over the site and couldn't find the info i'm looking for so..


the inevitable happened.

recently i installed a 70cc athena kit on my free spirit. the breakin has been going really well, the bike, until yesterday, was performing great, even with the drastically fluctuating temperatures going on here in LA right now.

so im cruising at around 40 yesterday, minding my own business, when i semi-soft seize/ hear a weird clinky sound from my cylinder.

i'd known for a while that i'd need to replace the metal reeds that came with the athena 2 petal reedblock, but i figured i'd have a few hundred miles at least before i'd need to start thinking about it.

wrong.

88 miles on the kit and one of them broke off and fired itself into my top end, exploding into a jillion pieces and scratching my piston (cylinder is fine) all to hell.



so my question is this:

boyesen doesnt sell reeds that fit the athena kit. the closest ones that match have too large a diagonal notch at the top and let air pass through when it's closed.

who here has either made their own reeds from raw material, or modified reeds to fit this particular block?

i'm open to either option, i just really really want to get rid of the hellacious metal ones ASAP.



at least i can take comfort in the fact that they make ones to fit my hobbit....
