no, just do it carefully, and do not take too much off at once. at harvey's suggestion, i used all hand tools (files, hack saw), in leau of a dremel. took my time on it. i got new weights so i could have spares. my plastic caps were trashed, and you really need them on a notched vario (if yours are trashed, you can make some out of crap from the hardware store, but they are not as nice as the hard plastic stock ones). i also drilled my weights out to give me better lower end to accommodate for my proma pipe. lighter weights = vario opening later, but too light, like stock PA50I weights, may not open up your vario full. can't remember what i drilled them to, but they weigh 11g now (stock ones are over 14g). i filled out the tuning spreadsheet if you want to see all my specs. the wiki has an article on notching with pix. if you have more q's, feel free to email me.
