Re: fun on the dyno
Motomatic went to the dyno, and it left me even more confused than when we got there. My bike came in at only 9 hp. We were expecting atleast 10.5. Tony's came in at 13.5 hp. A bit better than we expected. Heres where things get weird. With 4.5 hp disadvantage, my bike had a better speed to time ratio than tony's. Which according to the guy running our dyno "was the most important graph for automatic transmissions."
Like elliot said, it is best to have a broad powerband for racing, which I guess is why I had such a good speed to time ratio. My bikes peek hp was 9, but my bike was at 7 hp by 14 mph, and stayed between 7 and 9 hp all the way up to 63 mph. If you look at tony's chart or pazs chart, they peek at 13 or 16, but fall to 5 or 6 at points in their power band. This is where having a properly working transmission comes into play. This is why bikes like mine or elliot, who although producing much less power, would probably win in a drag race against a bike like paz's or maybe even tony.
So yeah, dyno is fun and awesome, but doesnt exactly solve all the problems you are wondering, and hp and rpms dont mean nearly as much on an automatic transmission. Once I figure out how to produce around 11 hp and keep that broad band I have now, then we will really be talking. haha.
I attatched my dyno chart if people are interested. I hope 77 and motomatic both do this again at the end of the season. Its fun to see where we are at. It will be awesome to see what kind of improvements we can make from here.
