Maxi is 4 stroking

My Maxi is 4 stroking, which means my jet is too big right? I was thinking that instead of getting a smaller jet, I could just drill a hole or two into my stock air filter, is this a stupid idea? I know it's kind of like cutting corners but I just thought I'd see what MA has to say about it. Thanks!
