Bringing a scary piston back to life
Dug up my old piston and I want to revive it cause I know all the scuff on it is material from the cylinder than can be sanded/filed off. I'm just concerned about a few of the edges that got smeared into small bumps/burrs, one of em being the material smeared over the ring groove, covering the ring, however, the ring slips right out, and looks and feels reasonably healthy.
Do ring surfaces need to be absolutely perfectly factory smooth polished? And the crown has a large burr; can I file/sand that off with safe results?
