how i made my peugeot ignition work

timo (infacinquenta) — Nov 19, 2009 04:03AM

i started w/ a new puch/peugeot internal ignition coi from treatsl. it fit pretty good. needs some washers. then i got a new set of points and 2 new condensers. i took the white wire form the treats coil and put it on the points. a stock condenser is also connected to the points as well as an external condenser, mounted to the frame. the points are gapped in the neighborhood of .35-.40 of an inch. the coils themselves ground thru the boltholes, so i connected them with a wire that i also ran to the frame. the light coil has it's one red wire running to the headlight and tail light, that's all i have for now. the external condenser and the back up ground bolted neatly to that little plate on the right side of the 103 swingarm. i have the timing set so the points are wide open at 1.6 mm btdc. plus a new plug, boot, and wire. i have a 15mm sha w/ 65 jet (seems a little lean) home made foamy platic cap airbox, malossi intake, polini reeds, simonini vintage style pipe. the bike is running high thirties w/ 220 pounds on it. takes off like a god damn rocket. fires great.

i was freaking out a few weeks ago, like why won't it run, i'm sooo stupid! wah wah wah! now it's the first bike iv'e had that i know exactly where all the wires go.

questions i still have:

is there any way for me to get more juice from either coil to run more lights and junk with?

tell me about your points and timing. mine seems good, i have a little boggy moment while the clutch is engaging but it may just be leanness.

stuff i still need to do: run all wires and cables in a more permanent fashion. jet properly. fix nasty rust holes in tank.

the 103 is a great bike, in terms of construction, power, and just mad comfy. very stable. i still love my puchs but i think my 103 will be my daily driver for a whle. hope this post helps.
