Re: Hobbit Starting Issues

latebreak (latebreak) — Nov 08, 2009 07:00PM

Update.

So I tore it down again yesterday.

I went through the ignition with a fine toothed comb. Rechecked the timing, points, gap, ohmed out the primary and secondary coils (2 ohms on primary, 8000 ohms on secondary), checked the harness for shorts, etc. Found nothing wrong.

Tried a brand new carb (one of those ebay aftermarket ones). Still the same issue.

So today I tore to original carb down, cleaned it, and put it on the bike. I also switched the reeds back to stock. It started on the first pedal and ran perfect. Took it for a few mile ride and it generally runs good. Did about 38 on the straights.

I find it hard to believe it was the Boyesen reeds causing issues. I have them on my other Hobbit and they are great.

Kind of crazy. But it ran. After getting hot the idle was a bit off, so I need to tweak it a bit. I'm letting it cool down to see if it will start again when its cold.
