Update.
It's alive!
Took the carb off one last time, cleaned it really good and went back to the #78 jet. Fired right up. Few tweaks of the mixture screw and its idling perfect.
Hard to believe 1 jet size would make a run/no run difference, but hey...the damn thing is working and I'm not going to question it much more.
No test drive yet, its raining and I'm waiting on SS steel wool for repacking the Leo Vince pipe. With no baffle the thing is crazy loud!
The offer still stands for pizza and the kegerator if anyone ever wants to wrench on peds around milwaukee. Attached is a picture of Hobbitville (and Triumphville)
