It ran, now nothing
Hello moped army
I recently bought a 1975 Intramotor Gloria Scout, with a Franco Morini M01 engine. It has been sitting for an unknown amount of time, but the motor itself LOOKS to be in good condition, but it doesn't run, well it did run, now it doesn't.
When I first brought it home, I checked for spark, there was a spark, it was a dull blue colored spark, but a spark.
I moved on to compression, it was a solid 120 PSI no matter when i checked it.
I cleaned the carb (Delorto 14.12) by taking it apart, and shoving wire and carb cleaner in every hole. then blowing it out with canned air. I had it slightly running, it would only run at full throttle with the choke on (I removed the choke return spring) when I would open the choke, it would rev up and die quickly. The old carb was very leaky, so I bought a replacement from treats.
When i put the new carb on, it was running strong on the stand, I could feel that it wanted to launch itself through my garage wall, I then hit the kill switch, checked the plug, it looked good. When I tried to restart it, nothing, not even a pop. I checked the compression while the motor was still warm, and it was down to 115.
I've done the same checks, I've checked for fuel flow, I've tried running without the gas cap, i've tried running without the gas lines attached, with a shot of starter fluid, it popped slightly, but it didn't run.
There are a few things i haven't tried, removing the head to check how much carbon is on the piston, try another new spark plug, and a leak down test.
One thing i am wondering, what does a strong spark look like? that would make a good picture.
I'm hoping that the leak down test will give me a better window into this engine. the whole bike has about 536KM on it, so it's a big old baby, I'd love to get it going again.
