California M1 Test
I want to get my license to ride my moped. Im 24, have a CA drivers license.
I have been searching online for hours trying to find an answer to my question. As far as i can tell, my moped is considered an M1 bike because it has no pedals. Does this mean i can use it for the DMV road test? I have no access to a regular motorcycle and just want to legally ride my moped around.
This is the only information i have found online about the subject but im just still not sure. Has anyone gotten an M1 license with a 50cc moped?

CVC 406. (a) A "motorized bicycle" or "moped" is any two-wheeled or three-wheeled device having fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power, or having no pedals if powered solely by electrical energy, and an automatic transmission and a motor which produces less than 2 gross brake horsepower and is capable of propelling the device at a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles per hour on level ground.
A moped is and always has been a MOtorized PEDalbike and has always required pedals. Any changes since the '70s were simply to include pedalless electric powered scooters. My '64 Honda Sport 50 had 5 hp and could top 40mph. Because of emissions, motors are not as powerful as in the past.
You cannot use a moped for your M1 motorcycle test.
A 50cc motor-driven cycle would be any street legal motorcycle or scooter that does not have pedals for you to help the motor with. It will require an M1 license to ride, and thus you can use it to get your M1 license. A 50cc Vespa is such a motor-driven cycle.
