Cross Canada Moped Trip For Charity
Good evening ladies and gents. So after 6 months of planning my route, building my bike, jumping through loopholes to get the bike insure, etc, I've finished finalizing my cross country trip from Vancouver, BC, Canada, to St.Johns, NFL, Canada, both to see if, using a strict allowance for gas and food, I can make it off the generosity of other people, as well as for Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia awareness and research.
The goal is to finish the 20,000km (12,427 mile) trip in under 3 months, but of course, things may change. I`ll be leaving May 1st, so I`m just finalizing a few things for the trip now. Just to reduce the possibility of anything going horribly wrong, I've compiled a list of equipment, spare parts, and tools I'll be bringing with me on my trip. I've built a spare motor for the trip just in case the worst happens, plus I've got spare bearings and rings out the yin-yang, so if anything breaks on the bike, I'll be ready.
I'll be doing the trip on my 1979 Motobecane 50V which I have lightly tuned (Light porting, case matched, Dellorto 15/15, higher compression head, plus a few other bits). I've also built a custom trailer out of 1/2'' and 3/4'' conduit, so that a car topper can bolt right on it. I've also installed some solar panels onto the trailer, and hooked them up to an Eliminator Powerbox, so I'll have mobile, renewable electricity for the trip to charge my camera, Ipod, phone, and cooler.
I've spent months planning my route carefully, trying to avoid as many large hills/major highways as possible, while still visiting all the major cities/sites on my route.

As you can see by my crudely drawn map, I'll be heading through almost all the major cities in Canada, as well as New York and Boston. The trip will also take me through Labrador, so I'll get to do some back country camping. The whole trip will be documented on both a Nikon D60, and a video camera, so there should be lots of awesome footage to post up during and after the trip.
I've set up a Twitter account that I'll be updating from my Iphone, so if anyone wants to follow what happens, feel free. Also, since the majority of my accommodation will be wherever I can set up my tent, if anyone along my route have a place for me to spend the night, that would be awesome. If anyone from the Orphans, Mission 23, or the kHz have a warm couch I could crash on when I head through New York and Boston, it would make my trip so much easier. I`ll even take you out for some drinks as a thank you if you'd like.
Feel free to email me at frostbackmopeds@hotmail.com if you can help me with accommodation, or if you've got any questions.
