Moped Army

I went down to my local Aprilia dealer on Friday and finally got a chance to dest drive an SR 50 DiTech Scooter. I'm looking to buy something with a bit more teeth for next year's True Grits. He let me take it on an extensive no-holes-barred run. I was amazed that, if the conditions were right, I could hit 58mph on this thing. That's on straightaways with flat ground. It has a tremendous take off, even on steep grades. Now the downside.... It was a fairly windy day. If I were to go head on into the wind, the variator would really hold it's speed back at 37mph. The engine wasn't straining in the least, but that variator would not "gear up" anymore for speed. The ride was not as stable as my Puch MKII...no way, no how! Those tiny scooter tires just seem to find every bump. It's ride felt very flimsy to me with the feel of plastic all over me.

So...I put a healthy deposit on a brand new 2000 RS 50 that he has not been able to sell in "Harley Country." He sold it to me for the same price as the SR 50. I'll be able to pay the balance off in the next couple of months. So now I have a 50cc 6 speed machine to park next to my trusty old Puch.
