In Florida all you need is a a bill of sale when you register it. The bill of sale should include your name and address, their name and address, contact phone numbers (these aren't always required, just in case.) Also you must have a date, sale price and signature of seller (with printed name if illegible.) It's best if the seller has had it registered but not necessary. I know of a local guy who used a napkin and it passed the Tag Agency. Our laws to register and ride are very lax. You will spend more time describing what it is to the counter person mostly. Bring a picture, sometimes they reaaalllyy don't get it.
