Don't Forget Basic Chemistry!!!!
ok, so I had some bearings that had some rust on them but seemed salvageable. So I thought to my self: 'Self' I thought, 'why not just soak these in a bit of the ol' Muriatic Acid to clean them up? Hey that's a great idea, glad you thought of that! No worries, mate, that's why I'm here!'
I cast a glance around the shed for a suitable container for said acid bath, but all the plastic and glass containers were in use. Aha! an old pbr can, just the thing! cut off the top, drop in the bearings, and top it of with a healthy helping of Muriatic acid. And stick it outside to let the acidy goodness do it's thing. Moments later I hear mega hissing form outside my shed door, 'what in the name of all that is holy is that noise?' I wondered and stepped out side to investigate the snake pit like sound. 'Holy Hanna, I can't breathe, whats going on here?'
6HCl + 2Al = 2AlCl3 + 3H2(gas)
seems I may have inadvertently coated my bearings with Aluminum Chloride. Lesson learned...
