It's not just oil; we're like this about everything. Ask a simple question, and you'll get ten different answers from ten different people. Most likely, two of those answers will be exactly opposite, and both will be telling you that you will destroy your engine if you do whatever the other person is telling you to do. I just boil it down to different experiences. We've all done different stuff and had different results, and when people tell you something, they're basing it off their own experiences. Just because it's happened to one person (or one person's girlfriend's brother's dad's daughter's cousin) doesn't mean it will happen to you. I usually just pick whichever version/answer I like best, and try it out. If it doesn't work I find something else. And when I find what works for me, that's what I recommend to other people. Does that mean it's right for everyone? Not at all. But I'll let them figure out their preferred method/answer/etc the same way I figured mine out.
