I'm not a huge fan of transition pieces. They make spacing out the engine difficult and if you don't make em solid enough they will bend and cause all sorts of mayhem on your chain, gears and axles.
And 1/8 inch isnt nearly thick enough if you don't weld it in. I'd go for 1/5 inch at the least.
