Re: What you ought to do...!!
For range equations I will have to do some metrics.
I would _guess_ that for 10 miles you'll need about 30Ah (That's useable discharge, not nominal) ...
But that's a guess. 40 might be more reasonable, 20 might be feasable. A lot depends on terrain, wind, all up weight, acceleration, speed. Better to have some in reserve, that way you're not drawing to high a "C" factor.
If you're hypermiling it range goes WAY up. Blasting sucks amps, of course. Acceleration is never free.
There's this awesome (and Canadian made) gadget called the "Cycle Analyst" I have to pick up. Shows amps, volts, watts, speed, distance, in real time, plus cumulative, gives you a "fuel gauge" of sorts, recalls max draws, total amps used, watt-hours / mile, etc etc... another $175 I have to find! Totally worth it.
I'm also working on a small+light onboard charger that does it's work in an 8-hour workday kind of fashion.
Most available lithium chargers like to cycle in about 3.5hrs, so this shouldn't be a problem.
My work is about the same distance away, my intent is to have a finished product that I can drive into the parking garage, switch off, pull a cord out of and plug in to the wall, and leave it to charge.
A low-power electric Vespa in Maine was doing a similar commute on 22Ah of SLAs - at about 30mph. I think
Was that Elliot or Noah L inquiring? Did the author / user stuff get confused?
Seeing as this mount was the first one, changes are possible.
Anything you guys would like to see on a "production" version?
