New Member seeks New Moped
I have a couple of things to say about transitioning from a bicycle to a moped.
My friends had mopeds in the early eighties. I rode a twelve speed bicycle and drafted them on 25 mile rides. They got motorcycles so I had to put a fairing on my bicycle to continue drafting. I've gone 55 MPH on a streamlined bicycle, so it's hard for me to understand why a moped needs a liscence. I've built custom bicycles and people have always said "You should put a motor on that".
Finally on October 27, '04 I bought an Electric Bicycle with a 400 watt motor. It goes top speed 24 MPH. Does not need a liscence. Insurance: My Allstate Insurance agent has insured my streamlined bike as a moped since 1986. When the law was passed in 2001 requiring insurance on electric bicycles , I was already covered.
As much as I would like to have my class A 55 MPH electric moped running (and it only takes one horsepower with the proper aerodynamic fairing), electric bikes lack range. Even if I carry my charger in my backpack, I'll be stuck somewhere for four and a half hours waiting for my battery to recharge.
So I am checking to see if anyone knows anything about the Honda Ruckus. 49 cc moped.
