Windshield,helmet,and waterproof jacket needed!
Well...............so MUCH for weather foerecasts! Ha! I got out to ride this evening and the weather was beautiful......for 2 and a half hours, that is!
I called Kevin H. a little after 7 PM from about 15 miles from his house, but he wasn't able to ride tonight. GOOD THING for Kevin! LOL!
Just after I reached Chillicothe, I saw a big bunch of clouds approaching from the west. I had made up my mind to ride the Londonderry/Tar Hollow Park area as I dawdled my way home.
At about 5 miles east of Kevin's, the rain started and soon turned heavy.
My large windshield kept me dry though, because I could maintain good speed on Rt.50 east.
At the time, sleet or small HAIL WAS MINGLED WITH THIS FIRST STORM.........YES.......I said FIRST storm.Ha!
I made it into Londonderry and the rain had stopped, so I got coffee and apple fritters and went on up the street to gas up. I decided against Tar Hollow(another 20 mile round trip), because of the weather, so I left for the route home. At about 8:30 or so, I saw lightning approaching again, and I wanted to get a photo of it. I stayed parked trying to do that, but it inexplicably quit storming.
Well, to make a long drenching short,Ha!, I took off for the next 25 mile jaunt home. Guess what! Yep.............a SECOND STORM and this one was BAD! Drenching rain...good-sized hail hitting helmet and windshield(I may have a pic of it bouncing off the road in the StreetMate's beam) and nowhere to get out of it.
Because the hail was bad, I hadda SLOW DOWN to about 15 mph and I could hardly see with the steam and the rain and all in the dark.
So.........that's how I got drenched from the waist down...going slow.
Finally after 15 minutes of pure abuse by Mother Nature,LOL, I saw the weather moderate to a lighter rain and then none.
I stopped at a barn with good light and tried to sit there and get a good pic of the vanishing storm, but I was always too slow on the trigger of the camera, and there weren't too many of those drawn out flashes of lightning I had seen earlier.
STILL..........it was a great ride and I'd do it again! Fun,Fun,Fun! don-ohio (:^)
P.S.: The StreetMate never once missed a beat or threatened to die out in that really heavy downpour.
