Kinetic speed kit installation

Hey all,

So yeah. I bought a 70cc malossi kit for my Kinetic TFR, and I can’t seem to get it on. Or more accurately, I can’t seem to get the current engine off!

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Removed the foot pegs (cut them off with tin snips).
Removed the spark plug.
Removed the nuts and washers from the three bolts holding the cylinder head on.
Removed some of the parts for the decompression valve.
Removed all sorts of things trying get the freaking head off.

So I see there is this metal plate that is bent over the head, which stops me from being able to just slide it off. If I could tilt the engine down I could at least get the head off, but I can’t figure out how to do it.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Brian.

Take the back shocks off, tilt the body up, and get in there with a little screwdriver or something. Hurrah for Kinetic!

Is that one little flathead screw on the top of the plate the only thing I need to remove?

Argh, well I’ll take another swing at it tomorrow after work. Hopefully I’ll have it up and running for 9pm. :)

Okay lets see if I have this process right:

Remove the bolts on the head
Remove lower rear shock bolts, tilt frame
Remove the stupid screw on the top of the metal plate
Remove cylinder head
Remove exhaust

Remove bottom half of cylinder? Will this just come off or are there other bolts to remove?
Remove piston & wrist pin

Put on new piston & wrist pin
Put on bottom half of cylinder
Put on cylinder head
Tighten bolts, etc (lube cylinder)
Put on new exhaust

Is that roughly right?

Also, will I have to remove the carb completely to put the new jet in the float bowl?

Nothing that would affect performance. I bought parts from http://www.50cc.nl, check out their section for the Vespa Ciao. You want the 12 point 70cc kit.

I want to get a 13mm carb too, once they become available again (and I can afford one).

No just remove the little square box at the bottom of the carb (float bowl) just 4 screws and you have access to the jet.

Brian did you get good instructions in English with your kit ? My Polini had like 20 stickers but not one word in English.Everything was in Italian with no diagrams go figure.I think a good write up would be a great thing.Wish I had known that trick with the shocks.

The Malossi is also in Italian, but that is what you have people that have gone down that road before you for.

Big ups to another Kinetic that has some kick!
