I recently bought a 1982 eagle moped and I was hoping someone could help with a clutch question. Does it have an automatic or manual clutch? I am using it manually currently.

what? how could you “use” an automatic clutch manually?

most mopeds have an automatic clutch, you have to engage it to start the engine, but after that you dont touch it again. the bike will idle and accelerate without any assistance or shifting. just twist the throttle and go

I realize that most mopeds are automatic, but this one does not seem to engage. I was not sure if it is functioning properly. When I removed the cover there appears to be a fairly large throwout bearing. Would this bearing be what engages the clutch with RPM’s? I have been manually engaging the clutch to pull the moped; which at the same time pulls on the compression release.

It’s a sachs, pull the clutch to start it, and it should work like normal, as long as you have the right amount of fluid in the transmission. It’s kind of opposite of a regular motorcycle- pull the clutch to lock it up.

Thanks for the great information, but after reading old posts we took it apart and tighted it way down. Thankfully it worked great and now functions prefectly. Much easier to ride!!!
