i’d have to disagree on that point there.

but first let me confirm that there should be enough juice to energize a decent coil. we’re running a bosch performance coil (blue 150:1 turn ratio) and its pretty damned awesome.

now, when we put the new big coil on i gapped the plug bigger. bigger gap means larger spark, a larger spark is exposed to more of the fuel air mix, which means that it’ll start a bigger flame kernel in the engine. larger flame is going to burn the mix alot more completely than smalled plug gap. we’re running a .040 gap with a steady idle. the engine sounds alot different with the larger gap and bigger coil, idles better, and runs alot stronger. picked up noticeable torque across the whole rev range. the blue coil is said to make a 30-35kv spark. the stock V1 coil is throwing something about 10-15Kv some say 20.

you can never discredit the importance of a strong ignition system. also the neat thing about the coil we’re using is its designed to fire 4 cylinders upto 6000 rpm. so on a single cylinder 2 stroke there should be no problem about the coil not getting a full charge at high rpms, it ought to have ample time to build to full potential.
