I’ve been using some TCCDs as cheap throwaway kits lately while I build my other setups. My experiences…
Started with a 70 TCCD, I used three base gaskets (OEM Puch base gasket thickness) on recommendation of several people, and no head gasket. Had alright midrange, horribly boggy low end, which I chalked up to undersized carb and top end pipe. GPS’d at 45. Tried to use a 70cc Hi Comp head on this, and the bike would not start. Too much compression? Dunno. My tester was busted.
Traded the 70 TCCD for a brand new 50 TCCD to fool around with. Used the three base gasket, no head gasket combo that I used on the 70. Also, I put this together with the 70 Hi Comp head. I knew the squish zone was way off for a 50cc cylinder, but I figured I’d try it anyways. Result? The bike would run for probably about 30 minutes, get hot, and shut off. Smoke coming from the cylinder poured out the carb. People said, condenser, mang! I said, condenser doesn’t make smoke come out your intake, sucka. Replaced that head with a stock Puch #1 head. Smoke issue and random shutdown? Gone. Low end still trash. I want to contribute it completely to the top end pipe I was running, but I can’t help but think maybe the port timing was off, and it needed one less base gasket. I’ve already moved on, though. Experiment, kids!
