Well, um, NO.
When Honda decided to make a 20 MPH version, they changed more than just the variator. While I’ve eliminated or changed all other “designed-in limits”, I’m still “suffering” from the power-stunting porting of the PA50I cylinder.
So far, I’ve increased the power output of the PA50I engine to close to a stock PA50II. Once I port the PA50I cylinder to PA50II specs, the speed should jump well into the thirties. New gaskets have been ordered and are on the way!!!).
Without enough output power to “push” the moped to speed, it’ll just go so fast. And, since basic theory says that drag increases with the square of speed, a PA50II must produce 2.25 times more power/torque than a PA50I (all other variables held constant) to drive the moped to 30 MPH.
The other factor that I’m leaving out is the torque vs. RPM curve of the two motors (my altered PA50I and a stock PA50II). It is possible that I’m operating on the “front side” of the torque curve. When on the center stand, the engine certainly seems to “wake up” or rather “come on the pipe” at wheel speeds faster than 27 MPH. This may mean that the pipe/carb/porting combination, while an improvement, has its best impact at engine RPMs that are faster than the moped can reach (for now).
