Proma Exhaust on Honda Express

http://www.treatland.tv/honda-hobbit-proma-performance-pipe-p/honda-proma-pipe-hobbit-pa50.htm

Has anyone put one of these on a HONDA Nc50? I am trying to figure out what to modify to make the pipe fit. There seems to be three points where clearance is any issue. The rear tire is the first and a little grinding with the dremmel should take care of that. The second is with the pipe and the bottom fins of the cylinder head. Should I trim the fins or modify the pipe for clearance. The third pinch point is the with the cross bar that stretches between the foot pegs. Has anyone modified the frame or should i cut and weld in a channel to all for the clearance. Let me know you guys think? Is cutting into the exhaust a good idea? Will that have a drastic effect on performance?

make the pipe fit the bike, not the other way around. there are a lot of good pipes to fit that bike . the PPL who made them know way more about it than I could ever do.I have heard that honda’s can rip w/ correct jetting/pipe combo.(i am into vesp’s) the hard work has been done for you. do not chop off cooling fins or any major part of the cases. they are needed for cooling. Ask more here. MA people will help you big-time…..Great People. You came to the right place for ‘Ped help. Peace!,B.

Do a search on the site to find more info. Type in something like “proma express”.

Its not going to fit an NC50.

Trust me, I have tried. The closest I ever got was after kitting an express the exhaust port hung down another 1/2’’ or so and the bulb almost cleared the tire in the back. Also the case is kind of in the way and the kick stand would have to go.

Pretty much what you would have to do is lose the center stand and its mounting bracket and cut the header about 3/4’’. I’m sure it would have an effect on performance, what kind I can’t tell you.

No, it will fit an urban express.

The Urban express or NU50 is a totally different animal than the Nc50 or just plain Express.

Well, not totally different, I guess Urban expresses are like chimps, and NC50s are like bonobos, but anyway…

A proma WILL fit an Urban express NU50. You DO have to take off your center stand and your center stand mount.

A proma WILL NOT WILL NOT WILL NOT! Fit an NC50 without cutting and welding.

Re: Proma Exhaust on Honda Express

Thanks but what good is the scoot without a stand….That would suck….I called up TREATS and cancelled my PROMO pipe order…..I modded my stock pipe and works/sounds pretty damn good…..AND I still have all my parts on my scoot…..
Thanks for the tip though…..

Re: Proma Exhaust on Honda Express

I`ve been playing with different size/weight rollers in my variator….Finally hit on a combination of 3 5.7 gram rollers and 3 5.6 grams rollers….Killer takeoff then the other weights kick in in the middle and it`s like a 4 barrel carb. opening up…...

Hmm…. Couple of things here. The weight in a variator has a cumulative effect, it doesn’t “kick in” the second set of weights.

Even if it did, you must be very sensitive to feel the difference in .3 grams (point 3) of weight.

Lastly, NO Honda express kicks in like a 4-bbl.

But I’m glad you got it tuned to suit your needs. Probably just a typo.

Re: Proma Exhaust on Honda Express

I know I over exaggerated it quit a bit….
I can`t see inside the variator to see exactly how they move in there with the different weights next to each other….
But I can feel the variator go through the different stages like it`s shifting gears…..I know a Express hasn`t got the power to KICK IN LIKE A 4 BARREL CARB. ....But compared to a stock one, it has alot more power….
I have matched the combustion chamber to the 70cc piston, no head gasket, proma pipe, open intake w/low restriction airfilter…..To match my HOLLEY 650 DOUBLE PUMPER CARB….LOL..JUST KIDDING DUDE…
It`s a fun little project to play with….I use it at the track as my pit bike to push my bike around after a pass…..
I`ll try to post a pic. of it….

Super sweet drag bike dude. I know you were just getting caught up in the mods and the 4bbl analagy was just used to describe the sudden pull.

Seriously though, a finely tuned variated trans is a juggling act. You’re trying to get the variator to hold in long enough to take advantage of the lower gearing range (mid to lighter weight) which is fighting the large torque spring rate in the clutch, and having the clutch shoes hook up smoothly to keep it all within the maximum torque range of the motor in combination with the weight of your ass. This will be different for every combination of bike, motor size & powerband, rider weight and riding condition.

It takes a lot of playing around with the different parts and combos to find the optimum performance. But when it’s done right, the motor jumps directly to the peak power band with what sounds like a constant slipping clutch until it finally hooks up smoothly at about 200’ + out of the hole.

Check out this You Tube video of some variated drag bikes (scooters).

Excellant explanation….I hear ya on that…..I had to do that with a Yamaha Zuma scooter I have….70cc kit and ALL that juggling around of weights, clutch springs, I musta had it apart 50 times…...Finally got it just right and I can keep up with the cars on the road going 55 mph with ease…..
I still have alot more messing around on the Urban to vget it to do like you explained…...It`s about 60% there now….Gotta find some clutch comonents now….
Thanks again for the info…..

Seems that this thread got jaked a bit, but here is a more thorough explanation of the variator/clutch R&D work I did using the Maloosi Delta adjustable clutch on my Extreme Urban.

They don’t mount to the frame. There is a tab on the bottom of the crankcase and of course the exhaust header bolts. You have to make a hangar to connect it to the fender if you plan to keep it.
