Minarelli V1 / Polini / starter clutch

hi-

just upgraded my lazer minarelli v1 to a 21mm dellorto and a polini kit. it almost started (first sputters), but then as hard as i press the starter clutch it just slips.

is it common for this clutch to slip, would it need replacing?

or is the compression simply too high (using the standard 50cc head, measured squish, 1.2mm all good).
