You are starting to get specific without being specific. Anywhere you can place it that:
The wire gauge is sufficient not to melt.
The unit is somewhat protected from the elements (splashing water, wheel spray, snow, mud, rocks, etc).
It will get hot (if it is working), so you don’t wish to attach the heatsink to plastic.”
Where would you place the regulator in the lighting circuit, rather than where would you mount it. One wire goes to the earth and the other one should go…
