Put one of my two LeoVince’s on Hobbit 1 about two weeks ago. Acceleration wasn’t so good, until you got above 10 or 15 MPH.
Took out the PA50II variator weights (14 grams), put back in stock PA50I variator weights (8 grams), and MAN OF MAN – lots of acceleration – lots of fun.
P.S. I think that10 gram weights would be about optimal. if you drill out your PA50II weights with a 9/32” drill bit, it will be close to 10 grams.
P.S.P.S. Using a 1/4” bit = 12 grams; a 5/16” bit = 8.4 grams. I’ll post the info to the wiki when I get a chance, with some info about “tuning” the stock variator.
No variator mod for me. The fastest posted speed limit in my nowhere town is 35 MPH (on two streets only). Most other streets are 30MPH. I’ve got those beat already. I need torque for our hills. Need my power down low.
