OK, i can’t resist

make a treaty with it. Tell it that if it runs smoothly, just like you want, you’ll give it your entire backyard. Then let it live out there until you need your yard for something, take the yard back, and if you’re lucky, it’ll be running on e85 by then and you won’t have many problems with it.

There’s a guy in my town with a few indians, i’ll see if he can be of any help.

I think the valves are the right direction, as some have pointed out.

If you have trouble with it, find a guy in your town that handles old VW aircooled engines. Dealing with valve problems is something second nature to those guys.
