blinkers don't blink

I have a 1981 Suzuki fa50 that I bought last fall. I am just getting it out for the spring and it seems that when I use my turn signals, they light up but don’t blink. I bought it so late in the season last year that I don’t remember if this is what it did or not. Is anyone familiar with this problem, is this a problem? Thanks.
