Mine only has the wire mesh, I have it running so that should work. Right now mine is giving me a hard time. Try doing a really good carb clean – disassemble it, take out the jet and make sure everything is clean. Put it back together and make sure all the joints on the intake are nice and tight. It should run. Search “gutner carb” on this forum (search all days and it is was misspelled) and there should be some pictures to help you.

A lot of people will probably respond to your question and tell you to dump the gurtner and go dellorto – its probably not a bad idea, but if you want to save some money its worth trying a cleaning.
