if it leaked that much it sounds like you need a new petcock too,
unless you forgot to shut it off that is.

check that the pointy end of the float is pointing up when installed.

when you have the float out, shake it to see if there’s fuel inside,
if there is…you’ll need a new one, it’ll never work right if fuel is leaking into it.

gasket material can be gotten at any auto parts store.
