So I watched dateline or 20/20 or whatever it was and they talked about tires that sit on the shelf for years and they told how to read the DOT code on the tires.
I checked my tires that I just bought last week and they are from 1995!
So my question is, would you trust moped tires that were 13 years old?
The way to read the code is the last 3 or 4 digits of the DOT….... on the tire. It tells the mfr date and works like this..
0304 – third week of 2004
4307 – 43rd week of 2007
045 – 4th week of 1995 (like mine)
From wikipedia…
“DOT code: All tires for use in the USA have the DOT code, as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT). It specifies the company, factory, mold, batch, and date of production (2 digits for week of the year plus 2 digits for year; or 2 digits for week of the year plus 1 digit for year for tires made prior to 2000)”
