How do I know ring size based on piston size?

So I measured my Minarelli piston to be 38.60 mm in diameter, and the rings are 1.5 mm tall. I didn’t measure the ring diameter because I didn’t know whether to measure it compressed or what and because I think the rings are old and messed up anyway. So how do I know the ring size? The choices I know of:
38.70 /FG/ 1.5
39.20 /FG/ 1.5
40.60 /FG/ 1.5
