Tomos Transmission Problems...

I’ll start by saying I have very little mechanical skills, any and all help would be much appreciated. If anyone knows a good repair shop or someone who can do the look I’m looking for near Boston MA. that would be awesome.
I have a 2005 Tomos ST that I bought in July. It rode perfectly until the end of August until this happened. I was at a stoplight and when it turned green i turned the throttle and the engined revved but I didn’t move. I tried again and still nothing. I was sitting there like an idiot, bike running but not being propelled. I went to pedal and as soon as I pushed the pedals slipped just like if the chain on a bicycle had fallen off.
So what gives? Like I said I don’t know much about motors or mechanics of an engine but my friend thinks it has something to do with taking the baffle out of the exhaust pipe. (I thought it sounded cooler) If this is a factor obviously I will re-attach it.
Can someone please help me out with an idea of why this would happen and what it takes to fix it?
Thanks!
