idling problem with yamaha qt50

i am new to mopeds and scooters but with help have been fixing up a yamaha qt50 that needed a lot of work. now i have it running pretty well and starting pretty well, but sometimes (though not always) it wants to die when it idles. this is especially true when i first start it up. it will go up to a certain speed but when it tries to go faster it dies. i don’t think this is probably a terribly hard problem to fix, but i am not quite sure what the problem is. any ideas?
