Use the lower octane fuel. If the octane is too high, it will not burn.
I would suspect that your muffler is the problem. There is probably oily grundge inside the muffler that is heating up and possibly boiling, all creating flow problems.
When using an old muffler, I cut open the back and remove the metal sponge that is inside, clean inside the muffler’s can, run a frayed cable back and forth through the main pipe several dozen times to remove any carbon build-up, then seal the can back up.

You can use a 3% mixture if the oil is good quality.
L87YC is fine. Gap it at 0.5 mm
