power without running the motor?

any ever hook up their bike to an outside power source to test the electrical without running the motor? trying to troubleshoot non-working brake lights on a batavus without idleing the engine…. thought maybe it’d be possible to use a 6v transformer or 12v… anybody ever do this?

anyone know the common causes of taillight not working? the wires all seem intact, but i’m gonna head out there with a multi meter in a min. the ground wasn’t connected when i opened up the taillight, does it just ground to the chrome mud guard?

thanks
Jay
