Moby carb upgrade ?

I’d like to upgrade from the stock Gurtner carb to a real carb. Any suggestions on my best option …..mikuni, dellorto, bing, MIT. Also what size is the intake on a 77 Motobecane 50V. Does one measure the ID of the intake manifold or the OD of it? I’m assuming the OD since that is where it physically connects. But I have been wrong once or twice in the past (maybe more). Another thing, the gurtner has a cable type choke that is mounted to the handlebar control lever.
