mobylette speedometer cable?

my speedometer cable committed suicide a few days ago. anyone know of a cheap way to replace it? its a 76 mobylette.

i was hoping maybe its a fairly common cable and i could go to my local scrapyard and pull one off a motorcycle or something? anyone have any ideas? keeping in mind that cost is my greatest priority? =P thanks!
