batavus regency brake lights

i can’t seem to figure out this wiring for the brake lights… i’ve got the brake wire going to the top light terminal… i’ve got the running light going to the bottom light terminal and a ground wire going to the common middle terminal…

the engine starts but whenever i put on the brake the engine dies… its getting no spark for some reason

any ideas?
