I don’t think the points are your problem. All they do is make or break contact. I’d be looking at the crankshaft seals. When you have it running and on the stand spray a touch of brake cleaner behind the variator or flywheel and see if there is anychange in the way the motor runs. A better method is using a smoke machine, (the kind used in auto repair shops to test evaporative recovery systems.) to pressurize the crankcase.
